So, we are living in a world where we constantly try to take the focus off women’s breasts. Us women have fought for years to say, we are more than our bodies, right? Well now in fact, is the time we should be paying more attention to our breasts. Wait! It’s not quite what you think, so bear with me. We have listed 5 awesome things your breasts are telling you!

What many of us don’t realise is that our breasts can tell us many things, about our health, our well-being, our connections, and our sexuality.

Our breasts communicate what is going on in our bodies, good, bad, and ugly!

#1 ‘PLEASE TOUCH US!’

I start with this one first, because it is my favourite and it’s just FUN!

Breasts play a huge role in women’s sexual pleasure. It has been debated whether it is a myth, but science (and personal experience) tells us that a woman’s breasts can increase up to 25% of their normal size when they are aroused. Many of us can vouch for that, right? And we can certainly agree that they can become much more sensitive.

How does this work?

Stimulating our breasts releases a flood of neurochemicals like dopamine and oxytocin. These chemicals also cause the vagina to swell and lubricate in preparations for penetration, which in turn releases more pleasure chemicals into your body.

Further, foreplay (i.e., touching, caressing, tweaking, licking, sucking etc), intercourse and orgasms have a varying effect on the nervous system as well. As a result, blood levels increase to the area, causing the vessels to dilate and the surrounding skin to swell, making the breasts fuller.

The best part of all though might be a surprise to some of you lovely ladies. Our breasts can have their own little party, yep you heard it here. It’s called nipplegasms. Yes, you read correctly. It’s a real thing!

Scientific research is only now beginning to understand how and why this happens. A recent study (check it out here) found the sensation from nipple stimulation travels to the same part of the brain as sensations from the vagina, clitoris and cervix. Hmmmm interesting! This means that just like the stimulation of our other sexual areas can create an orgasm, so too can the stimulation of nipples. Why not give it ago, even if you don’t orgasm, it is fun trying.

Nb: Read next weeks blog to find out the many ways to have an orgasm without penetration.

But it is important to understand that sometimes our breasts are feeling tender, sore or sensitive and the last thing we want is someone touch them. So don’t be afraid to tell your partner if you’re not into it at anytime. They are your breasts after all, and if you’re in a loving relationship your partner will understand. Plus, you should never do something that doesn’t feel good for you, right?

#2 YOU’VE OVULATED

Even us women are often not educated about how our bodies work. You may be surprised that a lot of women think ovulation can happen at any time. While we learn that ovulation happens around day 14 of our cycle, many of us don’t feel confident in that knowledge and grow up believing we can get pregnant at any time.

But the truth is, your body gives you very specific signs about what is happening with your cycle every month. Including when you ovulate.

A common sign of ovulation is sore breasts, particularly on the sides of your breasts and under your armpits. This happens in the second half of your cycle.

This is caused by a hormone our body produces after ovulation, called progesterone. This can be one of many ways to monitor fertility tracking, when you are more likely to fall pregnant. Please note: We don’t recommend you use this as a contraceptive only to monitor your own bodies cycle.

#3 A NEED TO DETOX

Our body has its own inbuilt detox system, called the lymphatic system. It flushes toxins from the body and keeps tissues clean and healthy. It is also extremely important to the immune system, as it carries white blood cells throughout the body.

But for the lymphatic system to work correctly it needs our bodies to move. Because our breasts are usually firmly strapped in with a bra, they are not getting the required movement necessary for detoxing.

How do we know if our breasts have a build-up of toxins?

Well, they could appear or feel lumpy or uneven under the surface. They could be sore or tender. Or they could feel hot and uncomfortable, indicating inflammation. In particular hot and painful lymph nodes. Even back or neck pain could indicate a build up of toxins in the breast zone.

How do we fix this?

 Massage of course!

We need to cleanse the lymphatic system and the easiest and best way to do this is through massage.

Lymphatic Massage – This massage is a very gentle type of massage and encourages the natural drainage of the lymph, which carries waste products away from the tissue back to the lymphatic system so it can dispose of them.

You can go to a special practitioner for this or do it yourself. This also is a great way to get to know your body and especially your breasts. Check out this example: on YouTube.

Other ways to help detox are:

  • Electromagnetic Lymph Therapy
  • Drinking small sips of hot water daily
  • Dry skin brushing
  • Limit the use of deodorants under the arms
  • Castor oil packs
  • A healthy diet

#4 HORMONE IMBALANCE

Do you get sore breasts in the week before you get your period? That is a clear indication that your hormones are out of balance.

If they’re sore at the front and up over the nipples, it tends to indicate higher than optimal estrogen levels, which can prevent ovulation. If both the side and the front are tender, you’ve probably ovulated, but your progesterone levels are low and you’re suffering from estrogen dominance.

Basically, your hormones aren’t functioning as they should. If left unchecked a hormone imbalance can become a problem. To prevent further health issues its important to get your hormones checked and work on rebalancing them.

#5 THEY ARE OUR HEART CENTRE

Many believe the breasts are our physical manifestation of our heart centre. The heart centre is the area of our body that is most associated with, love, connection, and compassion.

Breast massage is seen to be a powerful way to connect with our loving heart-centred qualities.

Also, it is an essential part of sexual pleasure and play. This kind of foreplay will increase the intimacy between you and your partner. As discussed earlier these triggers the pleasure and love hormones, increasing our feelings of affection and bonding with our partner, strengthening our overall relationship.

IN CONCLUSION

Loving our breasts is one of the most powerful steps you can take to loving and accepting yourself as a beautiful and amazing woman. Listen to all the messages they are sending you to stay healthy and have a happy relationship with yourself and your partner. Enjoy being a woman and live life as your radiant and feminine self.
